Pizza chain Papa John’s is currently recruiting a Chief Vegan Officer (CVO) to help expand its vegan menu options in the United Kingdom. The new role will support the company’s Head of Research and Development in innovating Papa John’s vegan menu in 2020 to ensure the chain offers exciting options to its vegan customers. The appointed CVO will be responsible for updating the team on up-and-coming vegan trends and relevant news as well as taste-test new vegan recipes. “2019 has been a huge year for plant-based food and gone are the days where vegans and veggies are limited to a couple of disappointing side dishes,” Papa John’s Marketing Director Giles Codd said. “With the launch of several new vegan menu items this year, including vegan Sheese—which flew out the door as soon as it hit the menu—it’s clear that there is a huge appetite for more exciting plant-based offerings.” Earlier this year, Papa John’s added three vegan pizzas featuring dairy-free Sheese made by Bute Island Foods, along with a vegan version of its popular Marmite and Cheese Scrolls, to the menu of 350 UK locations. The chain sold out of the vegan cheese within 24 hours of its launch. In March, vegan options were expanded with the addition of Cheesy Vegan Potato Wedges and Vegan Jalapeño Cheesy Potato Wedges using the same dairy-free cheese brand. According to Papa John’s, the ideal candidate has a background in food technology, a degree in food science, and a passion for plant-based food. Applications for the position will be accepted until November 8. “We’re looking for someone who’s extremely passionate about food with a firm knowledge of veganism. If you think you’ve got what it takes, we’d love to hear from you,” Codd said.
